Zuzana Malek was born in Slovakia and came to the United States with her family in the early 1980’s. She grew up in Southern California and earned an undergraduate degree in Law and Society from the University of California, Santa Barbra where she graduated with honors in 2006. Thereafter, Zuzana attended the University of San Francisco for law school where she served on the school’s Diversity Committee and graduated with a Cum Laude distinction.
After earning her law degree Zuzana relocated to Portland, Oregon and worked both as a solo practitioner and with a firm with a focus on family law and litigation. Throughout her career Zuzana has been dedicated to community service and civic engagement. In 2013 she was recognized for her dedication to pro bono legal services with the Michael E. Haglund award, a distinction awarded for her volunteer work with Legal aid Services of Oregon where she led a family law clinic for low income litigants. In addition to her volunteer work with Legal Aid, Zuzana served on the Board of Directors for the Oregon Gay and Lesbian Legal Alliance, was a committee member for the Young Lawyer’s Pro Bono Committee, and served on the Veteran’s Justice Outreach Committee.
Zuzana relocated to Sandpoint in the spring of 2016. She is eager to take advantage of the abundant recreational opportunities in the area and enjoys biking, long distance running and gardening.
